And While We Were Here...

"And While We Were Here"

A film by Kat Coiro, featuring my number one girl, Kate Bosworth and her co-star, Jamie Blackley.

It follows Jane, an American writer, on her adventures through the island of Ischia, off the Almafi Coast.
It tells the tale of broken love, forbidden passion and self-discovery.
While on a business trip with her husband, Jane stumbles into a romantic affair with a younger man, Caleb - who makes her feel
youthful and alive again, which in-turn ignites her professional dreams and pushes her to re-evaluate her personal life.

It's not your average pop culture film, which makes me appreciate it more.
You can take many messages with you throughout the film, it's all down to self-interpretation.
Through Jane's grandmother's WWII stories, the troubling love behind Jane's marriage or her new
found lust and youthfulness in her dalliance with Caleb.
In (senior) high school my English teacher's would mostly critique my film-based essay's rather poorly,
stating that I may have missed the message, the message that most of the class reported on. I always
believed that my interpretation was completely justified. In my eyes, no view is the incorrect view.
We all receive a different message or feel different emotions from film. It's up to you what you take from it.

I'm still trying to figure out whether Kate styled herself in this film, but all signs are pointing to 'YES'.
Her wardrobe was perfection and I want in on all of it!

*EDIT: After speaking with Kat Coiro, it is confirmed that both Kate and Kat styled
Jane's wardrobe in the movie, using many of Kate's own personal pieces.

Interview | KiVARI.

KiVARI SS '13/14 collection

Australian label KiVARI is defined by it's bohemian style and gypsy lifestyle, sporting luxe leather,
soft fabrics and prints to keep you on trend all season. It is said to be for "the dreamers, lovers of life, bohemian
gypsy's, the rockers, the trendsetters, sunworshippers and worldly explorers".
I was lucky enough to interview the Gold Coast-based designer about her new label...

1. Name. Age. Occupation.
Kirsten-Lee Keysers. 33 years old. Part-time radiographer, full-time KiVARI designer/owner.

2. How did KiVARI begin?
On a surf trip to Indonesia in 2010, I saw a gap in the market for affordable leather bags. So naturally I started designing
and selling leather wallets and bags at the local markets. In 2012 I released my first range of apparel to compliment my
leather pieces. From there KiVARI has grown more than I could have ever imagined into what it is today.
I couldn't be happier with how well it's been received!

3. What has been your inspiration behind the "Harlequin Daze" SS '13/14 collection?
"Harlequin Daze" was inspired by my love for the ocean. The colours below, the angular lines on my
surfboard and that "free"feeling of just you and the ocean.

4. What type of girl do you design for?
The KiVARI girl is: Young at heart, loves and adventure and has style with a touch of class and rock and roll edge.
She is a worldly explorer, gypsy and essentially a lover of life!

5. What is your favourite piece/s from the collection?
The 'California Dream' leopard shorts. I live in them!

6. Where to next for KiVARI?
Global baby! Haha.

My pick is the ever-so-popular 'California Dream' leopard print shorts aswell.

Freja Beha for Vogue UK.

Freja Beha, the queen of androgyny, for Vogue UK January 2014.

Freja is one model that needs little styling or hair and make-up. Her in her natural state is enough to transport a photograph
onto the pages of international magazines. One of my most favourite photographers, Cass Bird shot the editorial in the rural
and beach-side setting. She has a certain knack of capturing rare and intimate moments and a comfortability with her chosen model,
which is incredibly admirable. Stylist Francesca Burns chose soft white and black pieces for those
summer days filled with long dresses, crops and light-weight tops.

By the looks of things, the new year is proving to be a good one thus far!

Interview | Kristi Rose, Designer.

I adore the femininity this collection holds. With soft flowing fabrics and beautiful signature prints, Kristi Rose's Spring/Summer
collection "Greased Lightin'" is one to lust after this summer. Personally, I am swooning over the entire look in the
first shot; 'The One The I Want' t-shirt and 'Hound Dog' shorts. (How cute are the 'Grease' referenced pieces!)

I was lucky enough to ask Kristi a few questions on all things 'Kristi Rose'...

1. Name. Age. Occupation.
Kristi Rose. 24. Designer.

2. Let's start from the beginning... How did 'Kristi Rose' come about?
As far back as I can remember I've always wanted to do something in a creative field, it was always where I felt
most comfortable. My childhood was spent creating outfits and forcing my parents into buying me clothes. I guess
you could say it just naturally progressed into designing and dressing others.

3. Where do you find your inspiration for new collections and who are your influences?
I am always inspired by prints, local and international artists and colour schemes. Right now I admire designers with their
own individual approach to print design such as Proenza Schouler, Mary Katrantzou and local designer Josh Goot.

4. What has been your career highlight thus far?
Having the opportunity to showcase at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New Generation Show
was by far the highlight for me.

5. Who would you die to see in your designs?
I would kill to see Clemence Poesy, Kate Bosworth or Alexa Chung in a Kristi Rose piece.

6. What are your favourite pieces from "Greased Lightnin"?
You cannot physically get me out of the Peachy-Keen Jellybean playsuit lately, it's scary.
Other than that I am loving all the matching suits and mixing the prints up.

7. And lastly... Where to next for 'Kristi Rose'?
Swim! I'm starting to work on a swim line for next year. Exciting things, I promise.

Thank you Kristi, I personally can't wait to see what is in store after this killer collection.
